There is further news on Alan Johnston, the missing BBC correspondent. According to Palestinian authorities, he is alive and they "know what they have to do" to secure his release.

perhaps one happy ending...
The trauma that he and his family have gone through over these last weeks is profound, but I think we all hope that he will be rescued, and they can begin to heal.
